seriously. also most of the time they know stuff is going on but
they wait till it's more established, because unless it's
mainstream it's not worth writing about
I'd like to come to their defense a little here and say that
they are writing for mainstream users so it seems sensible to take
that tact. People who find out about websites from reading The
Guardian are not looking for the latest and greatest startup.
You have some point BUT journalists are supposed to broaden your
reader's horizons. it's cowardly to write only about things they're
completely ready to digest. come on, it's tech, a bit of challenge.
This way mainstream users will always be behind!
it's just that they sometimes try to pretend they're on the
frontiers. i'm very sensitive to journalistic accuracy, probably
over-sensitive. journalists parents, you see :)
If they wrote more about the "startups", wouldn't that in itself
help said services reach the mainstream? How is the average user
even supposed to find out about such news if not from the
media?

I think the BBC is one of the worst culprits for being ultra behind on tech news.

True, I always like to see a hand holding guide to what's "new" for the less tech savvy but there should be room for both.
